A teacher’s life for me

I just got home after both job #1 and job #2, and finally I can reflect a bit over today’s happenings. It all startet at 7 AM since I was going to attend a “Science Fiction and Society” lecture (yes, it’s a real deal) at 8:15. My lecturer both looked and sounded like a dedicated “Star Trek” fan, which was very suitable considering what the class is about!

My second post for the day was the high school I’ve been a substitute teacher at for two weeks now, in an English class. My plan for the lecture was not at all fantastic, but still the young minds really surprise me now and then, in several ways, actually. The funniest part (for me, anyway) was when I, in the middle of reading a story for the whole class, startet laughing because I think the piece of literature was hilarious. You see, the text was something we worked with in the lecture I attended this morning, and I thought it was so funny that I had to read it out loud in class. By the end of it I was the person who lauughed the most, but I like to think that it was a different start of English class – even though the text itself had nothing to do with what we later was going to work with.

Another surprise came along when I discovered that not only one, but two of the boys had found their way to my blog and my Instagram profile, downloaded some of my selfies and – wait for it – used them as desktop wallpapers. It was quite surreal to suddenly see yourself on a relatively strange person’s desktop!

No matter how I put it, today’s class was somehow incoherent, with a sci-fi story as an introduction, “The Simpsons” as break entertainment and a somewhat uneasy/counterproductive session of working with a short story, but I had fun (hopefully I was not the only one). When I at the end of class thanked them for having me and they gave me a round of applause, I thought to myself: “This is what I’ll be doing with my life. And I can’t wait!”
